Whiplash May Lead to More Than a Pain in the Neck
Posted on 2012-03-14 11:41:30
Whiplash is a painful condition that occurs when the vertebrae in the neck become compressed or unevenly spaced as a result of being whipped back and forth. Although the condition can occur in sports and basic slip and fall accidents, it is most commonly associated with injuries sustained during a car accident.A patient who has a neck injury may not experience symptoms right away, but will typically develop some neck pain or muscle stiffness within a few days or weeks of an accident. Left untreated, the neck pain may worsen as scar tissue forms around the injury. Although it may be tempting to take over-the-counter or prescription pain and anti-inflammatory medications, these drugs merely mask the symptoms and do nothing to treat the underlying problem. By visiting a chiropractor, however, the injury itself can be identified and treated before it becomes a more serious and even debilitating health issue.

At Burlage Chiropractic Wellness Center, Dr. Burlage is experienced in providing healing care for back pain, neck pain, whiplash and other injuries patients may experience as the result of auto accident injury in Lodi or Madison. If you’ve been in an auto accident, chiropractic care can help. Auto injury accidents sometimes have life-long effects. Some patients know right away that they have been injured. Others may not think they experienced any type of injury in an auto accident only to wake up weeks, or even months later, in substantial pain. In either case, it’s best to see our chiropractor as soon as possible after a car accident injury so we can perform an examination, document any injuries you may have sustained, and start on any therapeutic care that may be needed. The most common auto accident injury we treat is whiplash. Because your head and body can be thrown about during a collision, you may experience neck pain, headaches and migraines, blurred vision, and/or dizziness as a result. The effects of spinal misalignment could cause back pain or a herniated disc. Other patients may experience extensive injuries, including broken bones, which may require an intensive period of physical rehabilitation.

Spinal decompression is used to treat injuries such as slipped discs. The therapy slowly lengthens the spine, relieving pressure on the discs and allowing them to slide back into place.
